For my 3D Visual Effects class in college I had to create a 20-30 clip of a visual effect made in Houdini Side FX. At the time the pyro-advect particles node didn't exist yet in Houdini, so I had to make the entire simulation from scratch. You can see the digital asset I made below. 

After caching out the smoke sim as a VDB sequence, I then exported the particles as an alembic file. I brought these two files into Cinema 4D so I could render with Octane. 

Once the whole scene was in C4D I kinda had a whole playground to mess with. I experimened with materials, camera bokeh, lighting, etc. 


It was the first time in college I had this kind of freedom to roam and explore. I could create at my own will.
